Every time my wife calls me fat I get so depressed I cut myself... a piece of chocolate cake.
Studies have shown Marriage is the leading cause of Divorce.
Why are divorces so expensive? Because they are worth it.
my wife is actually a lovely person when I have my headphones on.

Politicians are typically not good at persuasion.

Trump uses visual imagery better than anyone. He simplifies to the point of inaccuracy in order to do that. A typical

politician avoids inaccuracy in order to avoid criticism. Trump sacrifices accuracy for clarity and persuasion. To

make us feel something. He kept things vague on purpose so we could imagin /insert our own best / worst case

scenarios.

Visual is far more persuasive than concepts. Find and use VISUAL words / ideas.

Persuasion vs. Manipulation - the difference is intention [this is flawed... manipulation does not necessarily assume

ill intent]
"Ends justify the means" has a bad rap
in a proper cost / benefit analysis, the ends will always justify the means. If they don't, you're doing it wrong.

The past only exists in our mind. Therefore the only way to travel BACKWARDS in time is through psychological /

mental means or through story.

Don't just say things that are true. Say things that will lead people to be productive / make a difference.

(solution-oriented). What can we do to fix / change / improve the situation.

[Ask 2 different questions that mean basically the same thing but with different emphasis to get wildy different

answers depending on the person's worldview / background / biases. (Frame Setting, Frame Alignment;

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frame_analysis)

1. Diagnostic - framing for the identification of a problem and assignment of blame
2. Prognostic - framing to suggest solutions, strategies, and tactics to a problem
3. motivational - framing that serves as a call to arms or rationale for action

The closer these 3 align with a group / different groups, the better chance of forming a movement.

Example: Trump
    1) problem = economy / jobs / trade; blame = immigration / trade deals / China / Mexico / Foreigners
    2) strategies = populism, build a wall, new trade deals, faux[?] trade war
    3) motivation = patriotism / revolution; Make America Great Again (AMAZINGLY INCLUSIVE SLOGAN - EAC WORD FULL

OF POWER AND MEANING. MAKE - create, do; AMERICA - patriotism; GREAT - improvement, progress, elitism, overcoming;

AGAIN - revolution, new beginning, rennaissance, dig at former administrations,

FRAME ALIGNMENT - 4 TYPES

Frame bridging is the "linkage of two or more ideologically congruent but structurally unconnected frames

regarding a particular issue or problem" (Snow et al., 1986, p. 467). It involves the linkage of a movement to

"unmobilized sentiment pools or public opinion preference clusters" (p. 467) of people who share similar views or

grievances but who lack an organizational base.
Frame amplification refers to "the clarification and invigoration of an interpretive frame that bears on a

particular issue, problem, or set of events" (Snow et al., 1986, p. 469). This interpretive frame usually involves

the invigorating of values or beliefs.
Frame extensions are a movement's effort to incorporate participants by extending the boundaries of the proposed

frame to include or encompass the views, interests, or sentiments of targeted groups. (Snow et al., 1986, p. 469)
Frame transformation is a process required when the proposed frames "may not resonate with, and on occasion may

even appear antithetical to, conventional lifestyles or rituals and extant interpretive frames" (Snow et al., 1986,

p. 473). When this happens, new values, new meanings and understandings are required in order to secure participants

and support. Goffman (1974, p. 43–44) calls this "keying" where "activities, events, and biographies that are already

meaningful from the standpoint of some primary framework transpose in terms of another framework" (Snow et al., 1986,

p. 474) such that they are seen differently. There are two types of frame transformation:
Domain-specific transformations such as the attempt to alter the status of groups of people, and
Global interpretive frame transformation where the scope of change is quite radical as in a change of world

views, total conversions of thought, or uprooting of all that is familiar (e.g. moving from communism to market

capitalism; religious conversion, etc.).

It's so right that you and I have come together, isn't it right Dr Marvin? I know it was meant to be!

- Yes! Because it's time! And I'm ready! With Dr Carswell Fensterwald, I wasn't ready... With Dr Rosingay and

Tcheski, there wasn't time. I was certainly wasn't ready for Malestine or Miller or Hill. But with you! Finally, I'm

Weird things that happened to me:

When I was about 6 or 7, a local church near where I lived used to hold a week-long "Bible School" for children in

the summers. At the end of the week they had a family service during which someone passed me a plate with a stack of

quarters on it. "How generous" I thought, as I put them in my pocket and passed the plate.

--------------

Once while visiting Nauvoo, I was playing at a park with my brothers, when a man walked out of the woods and asked to

play basketball with us. We played for a while and had a great time until he had to go, and he walked back through

the trees and disappeared. Immediately afterwards we looked at eachother and remarked how the man looked exactly like

Joseph Smith to all of us. We were convinced that we had been graced with a special dispensation.

A year or so later we found ourselves again at the Nauvoo visitors center where a new movie of the Church in Nauvoo

was playing. The actor playing Joseph Smith was none other than our Basketball-playing friend.

---------------

I once got a drink from a fire hose.

---------------

I was bitten by a Copperhead snake at girls camp.

---------------

I was once bitten by a dog in a swimming pool.

Andy Post
Andy Post, unpublished science fiction writer
Instead of “You can do anything you set your mind to,” I wish someone had told me:
“Look, kid, in all seriousness, there’s probably no way you’re going to achieve everything you want to achieve in one lifetime. You’re going to start out thinking you have all the time in the world and can do it all, but that little thing called life is going to intervene. You won’t know when and you won’t know where, but intervene it will, and then your plans will be shot. So try and pick one thing—just one thing—that you think you won’t hate. Not something that you love, because all dreams are a pain to chase at one time or another, and every amazing job has its bad days. But try to find the one thing you think you’ll hate the least and pursue it with all your energy, drive, persistence, and stubbornness, and don’t quit on it.”
